After the interview process and a few trial days, the first proper day of my internship arrived. Expecting a quiet day in the studio, I was told a few days prior I would be heading down to Essex to film a football match. So, the day arrives, a hot day in early July, and I find myself at 8 am on a coach with around 20 football players and the rest media team. After arriving in Essex 4 hours later I was informed I would be coordinating the filming day and managing the other interns. Obviously petrified, I internally panicked walking around aimlessly but trying to look like I knew what I was doing for roughly 5 minutes before writing a list of importance and gathering everyone together. A rather hectic briefing later we became to set up before KO which was only 20 minutes away due to unfortunate traffic conditions.

After getting my sh$t together and organising everyone else I was then informed I would be filming the A Cam for the game. Having no idea how to even turn the camera on I YouTubed a video of the camera (there is nothing you can't find on YouTube) and then proceeded to film/hoping for the best for the next 90 mins. I should also mention when I said it was a hot day it was REALLY hot, so being under no cover filming for 3 hours I really learned the importance of sun cream and keeping hydrated. As the game progressed, I did start to feel more comfortable with the filming, even with some technical difficulties, and as a non-football fan started to find the game quite engaging

After returning 3 hours late, due to getting lost in the middle of nowhere, at 2 am I sleepily ran through the day's events in my mind and reflected on what a strange and insightful day had just occurred. I learned that day a few important lessons that I will share now. Firstly, it's okay to have no idea what is going on, most people don't really and for the most part, people are just treading water, and that leads to my next lesson. Don't be afraid to ask for help. No one knows everything and having to film with equipment I'd never touched before was a challenge, but after asking, people are usually happy to share their craft and passions. Onto the next challenge!
